Just go the HTC Magic/G3 on Friday- it's an awesome phone/ PDA!

Does anyone else on here have one or the G1? I'm going to look into the SDL ports for programing games using openGL ES on it. I've seen some - they use the accelerometer and are pretty cool, but I am planning on porting my flash game to the PC after I finish, but can also (using the SDL library) get it working on my G3 too!

It goes about 3/4 as fast as cable internet, which is pretty nice for getting directions and such.

I had one for about a year. I love it! I'm thinking about making apps and selling them because it seems to be a great moneymaker!

I played with an Android for a couple weeks, didn't like it. But then, I'm not in the market for a smartphone. I just don't need to consume data 24/7, ended up never using email or web on it, so there was no need to pay the extra $30/month.

Yeah, that the jip unless you use it. I don't need it 24/7- would be fine spending $10/mb :-o Since on average, even with heavy use I only reach about 30mb...

I got it mainly to use as a wireless modem when I'm not near home... Actually barely use it as a phone, a $70 a month mobile modem...

Need to find a way to have just data only, and use VOIP for voice data.

um why not just use sprints 4g wimx wireless router, carry it in your pocket and have mobile internet for 6 devices, laptop, pc whatever. seems easier and only 30 bucks a month.

That looks like a great option.. I found that Sprint is offering it with a free iPad case to entice customers to use Sprint 4G rather than buying a 3G iPad. The problem is, it appears Sprint 4G is only available in a few states. What I can't figure out is why they're covering Idaho and Nevada but not CA or AZ? Pfft.. how stupid is that?

Thats a good idea- have you heard of one offered by tmobile?

They have no contract plans, so it would give me a chance to try it out. I could use google voice and use that for making called Cheesy

I basically just talk to my fiance, probably 8-16hrs a month tops, but paying $40 a month for voice, $30 for data. Not feasible- I only need my phone for emergencies/ keeping in contact on things, and internet. If I had an unlimited wireless device for $30 a month, I could get rid of cable at home, and just have all the devices in the house go on it- and use it for the phone Cheesy

T-mobile sure doesn't care anything about customer loyalty.. they treat new customers with better deals than old ones. When my 2-year contract expires this time, I may be switching to a low-cost alternative. IMO, these cell companies are getting out of control with their stupid gimmicks and insane prices. Something has to give.

Yeah- at least tmobile started offering a non-contract plan that is cheaper.

But come-on- it was like $30 a month 10yrs ago for 300minutes- I can't see logically spending more than $30/month on a phone.

I like data too- but it's the same price for my phone as it is to have all the computers in my house hooked up, and I can download several gigs a day on those!

My first phone was with Cellular One.. I don't recall what it's called now, maybe Verizon.. But it came with 75 minutes/mo for about $30, and due to difficulty moving into a new house without a phone line I racked up $700 in cell bills during one summer back in 1999. I didn't have much choice, can't live without a phone... but we just should have waited for all services before moving... the home builder screwed me over in that regard.

It's been tempting to take a look at the Sprint htc Evo 4G, but I'm still holding out for Windows Phone 7, especially since upgrading will be cheaper for me by the time it's available.

Your in the same boat I am, get the Droid Incredible or Wait for Windows 7 phone. I think I will just wait till verizon gets phones with super amoled screens and not just amoled. but in the end I will probably just get one of the many droid phones. I like the hackabilite of them that Windows phone 7 probably won't have  Sad

The potential for playing xbox games on it would be cool, but otherwise I don't know how well the microsoft strategy of "lets copy someone else to make are products usable" will work for phones.

I was excited about windows mobile (I think v3?) after the palm, since I thought It would be more like a computer on the go, but had been just as dissapointing as palm os.

i'm thinking about upgrading my windows phone to the sprint 4g phone.

i was holding out for windows 7 but it looks like windows 7 is just zunes junk with a phone, i cant stand zunes interface its horrid at best, so looks like i'm officially off the windows bandwagon. only problem with droid is i dont care much for java, but oh well. guess its time to play around with it again.

I believe there is a C++ sdk for Android.  The Java SDK for Android is terrible.. I wouldn't even bother.

you obviously have never used a ZuneHD, as much as I want a Windows Phone 7, I think android will be the one to get because of the hacker community unless they also do WP7.

So you give your garbage to friends? LOL.

I have a Zune HD but it has sat on the shelf for 4 mos unused.. I was very irritated that there was no power button. Doing stuff on it with XNA wasn't all that interesting..because who's going to run any game I make on it--Microsoft MVPs and Creator's Club developers and that's pretty much all. The Windows Zune software was annoying because it hijacked media file associations. Zune tried very hard to be hip and cool like iTunes but it comes across as a rushed-out-the-door product.

It seems like the Zune was a failed experiment. It's a shame. I really had high hopes for it. Hopefully WP7 doesn't end up the same way. I'm still waiting for a developer phone to really give it a going over.

I think Zune did pretty well for its intended purpose, as it plays music and has a copycat sort of online store like iTunes. It just seems to have been beaten by the competition, which is fierce.
